president has monarchal powers!?!

One of the more important things to happen while I was away were the hearings on Bush abuse of powers (impeachment hearing; which is going nowhere fast). The person who perked up my ears in dismay the most was smart-alacky talk-down -to-you Jeremy Rabkin. He was requested by the Republicans to be there.

He argued that during a time of war the president has monarchal powers. In other words during this time of endless war against a nameless faceless foe called terrorists the president has all the powers of a dictator. That's not consistent with the America I know and love. While the clip I could find doesn't have Rabkin saying that it is a good representation of the disrespectful contempt the fascist lovers hold all the rest of us.
